When you practice and you are pretty secure in getting through the maneuvers cleanly, get someone to watch and critique your flights. I am the only contest heli flyer at my field BUT I have a couple of AMA pattern flyers there. While they may not know exactly what I am doing, they are VERY GOOD at judging centering, symmetry, and shape. It makes a huge difference when you practice the maneuver correctly, and not keep practicing a mistake. Good pilots tend to make good observers. It does not take very long to correct your mistakes and then practice correctly.
