Contesting tip! More aerobatic tips! You do not have to fly at Mach 7 to do a good aerobatic maneuver. All you are accomplishing with a high-speed maneuver is allowing yourself less time to make the maneuver match the rule book description. You need the “right” amount of speed to paint the maneuver to match the rule book description. Try different entry speeds and see if you notice an improvement. Most top pilots do not fly their aerobatics with the throttle/collective stick jammed at the top of the transmitter as they enter the level flight part at the start of the aerobatic maneuver. Then they power into the vertical portions of the maneuver. Next, if all of your aerobatic maneuver’s entries and exits are at the same altitude, you will get better scores. First, the judges will notice your consistency, but you will also be more comfortable being at the same altitude as your other aerobatics. Next, if you mess up an aerobatic maneuver, put it behind you and focus on the next maneuver, not the one you just made a mess of. Like golf, focus on the next shot, not your last shot.
