Contest Tip: Direction

Contesting tip! Are you directionally challenged? If you are honest with yourself, the answer is most likely a definite YES! Getting over Flight Direction Preference (FDP Syndrome!) will be the hardest part of improving your scores, but attention to practicing both flight directions will make you a better pilot. To get the best scores, you eventually will have to learn to fly the hovering and aerobatic maneuvers in both directions. Yes, I know there are many reasons for your FDP Syndrome, such as your flying field prevailing wind is from your preferred direction. Well, when you get to a contest, Murphy’s law will probably cause the wind to blow from the other way. Practice the maneuvers in the other direction when the wind is not howling. Practice from the other side of the field when you are out there with just your contest buddy. Practice at a different flying field occasionally that is set up so the prevailing wind is from the other direction. You will get over your FDP Syndrome with constant attention to flying both directions. Comments and discussion welcome!
