Contest Tip: Hovering 3

Contesting tip! More hovering tips! Nail the hovering maneuvers to get your flight off to a great start. If you travel two feet past a point, don’t hover there, and then move back two feet to the correct point and hover again. You just told all of the judges, “Yes, I know I missed it!” Sit at the point that is two feet past and OWN that hover point. Yes, the judge in line of that point will see you two feet past the point, but the other judges don’t have that perspective. Own that spot, and don’t tell the rest of the judges that you missed it. Next, pirouette speed needs to be consistent. If you do five second piros, then do all piros at the same speed. Next, when you lift off to a hover over the center pad to “2 meters high”, make sure that your skids are 2 meters off the ground. This is a safety rule, so low hovering will be a larger downgrade than high hovering. Most people are not two meters tall at eye level, so you will be expected by the judges to be above eye level in that situation. Same thing when you return to over the center pad to land, make sure you are not low. Comments and discussion welcome!
