Contest Tip: Hovering 1

Contesting tip! No matter what class you fly, showing the judges your skill level early will set the tone of the potential for scores for the rest of the flight. No, you cannot nail the hovering and then make a mess of the aerobatics and get good scores in the aerobatics, but if you get the judges writing down 8s in hovering, then you are set for your good aerobatics to get 8s also. You get 4s and 5s on your hovering, then good aerobatics may get less than 8s. I know this may be controversial to some, but I have seen it play out forever. The judges are always striving to be consistent and fair, but setting the tone of the scoring early is in your favor. Some may say that it will never work, but why not set your scores’ tone to be in your favor early and see for yourself? Comments and discussion welcome!
